BCPS Must Do Better!

The 2014 SMART Bond did NOT include long-term facilities planning or CCC compliance. Schools like Parkway Middle School received a fraction ($4M vs $40M) of funds needed to finish pre-recession projects. Annual CCC updates on disciplinary practices might also provide insight into the persistent 30% ELA achievement gap.

Key Issues

School Board Accountability & Rebuilding Public Trust

Equitable Resource Allocation/Fiscally Responsible Use of Taxpayer Funds

Equitable Resource Allocation/Fiscally Responsible Use of Taxpayer Funds

  • Create an organizational culture rooted in ethical behavior
  • When asking the public to approve a tax increase during a period of inflation--transparency is key.
  • Operating in the Sunshine: Board Workshops, Yes; "Board Crawls, No."
  • Items requesting Board approval need to provide answers, not generate more questions.
  • Take advantage of the insight provided by Advisory committees.
